How to Search Criminal Dockets
Every Missaukee County criminal docket search begins at MiCOURT Case Search. Choose the Missaukee court first. Felony matters in Missaukee County sit with the 28th Circuit Court. Misdemeanors and traffic misdemeanors belong to the 84-1 District Court. Picking the right court helps. It keeps a criminal case from getting tangled with other local court records. A name search needs at least two characters in Last Name or Business. Beyond that, MiCOURT lets you narrow by first name, middle name, birth year, status, and category. Filed date and offense date can narrow things further when those controls appear. Hold off on Missaukee court filters until a broad search returns too many rows. Wildcards get rejected. Drop the asterisks. Know a Missaukee case number? Enter it exactly as shown, including its type, rather than guessing a local format.
- Open MiCOURT, accept its public-use terms, and select the Missaukee court that matches the offense level.
- Use Name Search with a last name, or use Case Number Search when the Missaukee court number is available.
- Compare the displayed Missaukee court, filing date, case type, status, and party details before opening a result.
- Read the Missaukee case-detail page in order: charges, hearing information, chronological events, disposition, and any later entry.
- Contact the holding Missaukee clerk for a document image, an official copy, an older file, or confirmation of an uncertain entry.
Note: One empty search does not prove a Missaukee criminal matter never existed. Court selection, filters, case age, and access limits all shape what the public results show.
Missaukee Criminal Docket Court Codes
MiCOURT labels the Missaukee side of the 28th Circuit Court as C28~1. It labels the 84-1 District Court as D84~1. Those codes mark court locations. They are not Missaukee case numbers. The codes still matter. The Missaukee criminal docket splits by jurisdiction. A Missaukee felony search may open in District Court for early proceedings and then move to Circuit Court after bindover.
The 28th Circuit Court carries felony criminal cases. It serves the Missaukee side of its joint circuit with Wexford County. The 84th District Court keeps the Missaukee misdemeanor, traffic-misdemeanor, and civil-infraction docket. Juvenile delinquency matters run through a Missaukee Family Division channel. They do not surface in ordinary public criminal results.
For the court-office view of the docket, the official Missaukee 28th Circuit Court page shows the court's own posted information.
One Missaukee courthouse hosts both the Circuit and District court counters. Even so, each court keeps only the criminal case history it owns.
What a Criminal Docket Shows
Michigan formally calls the chronological record a case history or register of actions. Most people still search for the docket. A public Missaukee County case detail can list the court, case number, filing date, status, party roles, charge data, bond information, hearings, chronological events, and disposition fields. Financial, order, or payment fields appear only when the case configuration makes them public. The event list is a dated log of filings, notices, returns, orders, and similar actions. It is not a transcript. A line mentioning a motion or a plea does not give every fact. It does not give every filed document. Use the register to find the event you need. Then ask the Missaukee court that holds the file for an order, judgment, or certified copy when the exact legal terms matter.
| Case and court | Case number, court location, filing date, status, and case type identify the Missaukee matter. |
|---|---|
| Charge block | Missaukee current and original charge, code, level, offense date, attempt marker, and disposition fields may appear. |
| Hearing data | Missaukee next-hearing description, date, time, officer, location, and comment can be shown when public. |
| Bond and sentence | Missaukee bond or sentencing fields are separate from the charge and do not alone establish a case outcome. |
| Register events | Missaukee dated descriptions, comments, judge or attorney references, receipts, and later setting information form the case history. |
Missaukee Criminal Docket and File
A MiCOURT result will locate a Missaukee criminal case history. It does not promise that every pleading, order, or exhibit can be downloaded. There is no universal free-document-image rule for Missaukee criminal cases. An online docket event may name a judgment, notice, or order. The paper still sits with the clerk. It may carry a reproduction charge or a court rule that limits access.
The Missaukee County Clerk acts as Clerk of the 28th Circuit Court. District Court keeps its own lower-court files. Call before mailing or emailing a request. State the Missaukee court and case number. Describe the document you need. Then ask whether it is public, on site, available as a plain or certified copy, and what it costs. Note that MiFILE is an account-based filing workspace for parties and filers. It is not a case-history replacement for the general public.
Missaukee Criminal Docket Number Checks
Copy a Missaukee County criminal case number exactly as it appears on a citation, notice, order, or an existing result. MiCOURT's case-number search uses separate year, number, and optional two-character case-type fields. The statewide examples do not promise one local criminal format. A location code like C28~1 or D84~1 names a court. Never type it into the case-number box. Trust the type and number shown in the Missaukee result. Skip added punctuation and a guessed prefix. If the number search fails, go back to the correct Missaukee court's Name Search. Meet the last-name requirement. Strip away narrow filters. MiCOURT's validators will flag a missing number, a wildcard, or a case type longer than two characters.
Stages on a Criminal Docket
Every Missaukee criminal docket begins with a charging entry. That may mean a citation, complaint, or warrant. Early felony work shows up in Missaukee District Court, covering arraignment, probable-cause review, preliminary examination, waiver, or bindover. A misdemeanor stays on that local District track. A felony can move up, and the next public case history may sit with the 28th Circuit Court.
Later Missaukee entries may record arraignment, plea, counsel, bond, motions, notices, responses, conferences, an adjournment, trial activity, disposition, sentencing, payment, probation review, appeal, or a correction. Read them in Missaukee date order. The dates tell the story. A docket label such as dismissed, guilty plea, or transferred is a useful status clue. Yet the controlling terms of a sentence or order remain in the actual court document.
Missaukee docket flow: Filing → Arraignment → Pretrial → Plea or Trial → Disposition → Sentencing
Missaukee Criminal Docket After Bindover
A felony creates a distinct Missaukee search issue. Early proceedings can occur in the Missaukee 84th District Court. A bindover then sends the case to Missaukee Circuit Court. The Circuit record may use a new or linked case number. So anyone finding an early District entry should also check the 28th Circuit Court location. This route between courts is normal, not a disappearance.
For cases bound over on or after July 2, 2024, MCR 8.119 steps in. The rule makes the lower-court case and court records nonpublic immediately after the bindover order. The transmitted Circuit Court record stays public. That is the access route the rule leaves open. It explains why a Missaukee District criminal docket can stop. A Circuit case history remains available.
Note: Preserve both court numbers when a Missaukee felony moves. The earlier District history and the later Circuit history matter. Each describes a different portion of the same process.
Missaukee Criminal Docket Terms
MiCOURT publishes no separate Missaukee code legend. Not every Missaukee criminal event comes with a decoder. These plain terms help distinguish common Missaukee history entries without turning a short docket label into a conclusion about the full case.
- Arraignment
- An appearance at which the charge, plea, bond, or next steps may be addressed.
- Bindover
- The transfer of a felony matter from District Court to Circuit Court after the required early-stage process.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome or status-ending action, such as plea, verdict, dismissal, or transfer.
- Continuance or reset
- A hearing moved to another date. The former setting remains part of the chronological record.
- Deferred
- A status in which judgment or disposition may be postponed as authorized; related program material can be restricted.
Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets
Court level comes first in a Missaukee criminal docket search. The 28th Circuit Court, a joint Missaukee and Wexford circuit, handles Missaukee felonies. The Missaukee branch of the 84th District Court takes misdemeanors, traffic misdemeanors, traffic violations, and civil infractions. Both courts share one Missaukee courthouse complex. One building does not mean one interchangeable file.
Check D84~1 first. Then try C28~1 if a felony result is missing, particularly after a preliminary examination or bindover. A local misdemeanor or traffic-misdemeanor search also starts at D84~1. Lake City and McBain have no separate municipal criminal courts in the official directories, so a city ordinance case filed in court belongs on the District Court route.
Missaukee Criminal Docket Caseload
The 2023 joint-circuit report offers an official scale check. It sizes up the Missaukee criminal docket. Its noncapital criminal table lists 81 new matters and 16 reopened, with dispositions running to 106. Another 15 ended pending. The felony row reported seven new matters, eight dispositions, and three ending pending, and these are report-year categories rather than a live count or a prediction for any current case.
The report covers the joint circuit's reported categories. A Missaukee reader still needs the individual case history, court notices, and clerk confirmation to know a particular hearing or case status.
Missaukee Criminal Docket Access Channels
MiCOURT is the first public channel. If it does not resolve the Missaukee criminal docket, the courthouse at 111 South Canal Street in Lake City offers public case-history and document inspection through the holding court. The 28th Circuit clerk sits at extension 202. The 84th District deputy clerk is at extension 214. For the court's local service map, the District administrator or magistrate is at extension 216.
Mail goes to P.O. Box 800, Lake City, MI 49651. Confirm before you send anything. Use that address only after the right court confirms the document, payment, and delivery process. MiFILE can help an authorized party or filer through its account workflow. For older criminal matters, call Circuit or District directly. That beats assuming the public web result is complete. Remember that county FOIA procedures cover county administrative records, not judicial case-history requests.
Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets
Michigan court-record access follows court rules. The ordinary county FOIA route does not govern it. MCR 8.119 makes the clerk maintain the case history and case file. The rule also allows inspection of public court records unless a restriction applies. At a Missaukee court counter, public case-history access and onsite document inspection carry no retrieval or inspection fee, though lawful reproduction costs can apply.
Plenty can stay out of public search results. Juvenile and child-protective matters, adoptions, wills, mental-illness matters, personal protection orders, set-aside information, and protected identifiers fall in that group, along with sealed or otherwise restricted records. MiCOURT adds a warning. Some courts apply a seven-year criminal-sentence filter. An empty result may reflect an access rule, age, an incorrect court, or a transfer rather than a conclusion about a person or case.
Michigan court-record rules: MCR 8.119 governs the register, case file, inspection, and sealing framework.
MCR 1.109 protects personal identifiers in court records and filings.
MCL 600.1988 limits charges for access and inspection while allowing permitted reproduction costs.
Missing Missaukee Criminal Docket Results
A Missaukee criminal docket can hide for simple reasons. Start over with the exact case number and drop any narrow filters. Then compare results from both local court locations. A case filed in one may never surface in the other. Spelling matters too. Try a first name alone if a common name buries the result you want. A possible felony belongs in the Circuit location, so search there once the District location comes up empty. Juvenile delinquency cases run through the Family Division channel, where confidentiality rules decide who may see the record.
A payment screen will not answer a case-history question. The District Court's linked payment route handles fines and costs only. It is no stand-in for MiCOURT. For a future court date, open the relevant case result. Then use the Missaukee County court calendar route. Confirm any urgent or conflicting setting with the court that owns it.
